Slow Cooker Beef Stew... A hearty and delicious beef stew that is loaded with yummy vegetables and incredible flavor! This is a great meal for busy days!

This past week has been absolutely CRAZY at my house. SO much to do and so little time. My check list has been eating away at me and I have been feeling a little burnt out.

With all the busy activities going on at my house, my slow cooker has come to my rescue more than once over the last week. I am so grateful for that wonderful appliance.

This Slow Cooker Beef Stew is loaded with yummy vegetables and flavor. My family had nothing but the best praises for this recipe! It is hearty and delicious. The best part is that it cooks for 6-8 hours and can be thrown together in the slow cooker in no time at all. Then it does all the cooking for you while you get all the other items on the check list crossed off ;)

I know you will love this recipe just as much as we did! It is truly incredible!

Nikki, this looks AMAZING! I need to find me some stew meat right away! Where do you find "stew meat," by the way?

    1. Chef in Training

I just find it in the meat section of my grocery store :) It is already cut up and ready to add. I hope that helps!

    2. Karen

I recommend "chuck". You will get a moister, juicier meat. Sadly, I did not use that, and the meat was very dry, and my carrots and potatoes were under cooked. A disappointment.

  2. Kari

All this rain totally has me reaching for warm, comforting stews right now!

  3. Beverley Press

Nikki I really love the look of this recipe and would like to know if I don't have a slow cooker what changes would I make to the recipe. Thank you xoxo

    1. Carol Artrip

Beverly, I just wanted to give you my input. You will definitely want a slow cooker. There are so many recipes on Pinterest, and it's so easy to cook with a slow cooker. Ask for one for your birthday, or Christmas. There are different prices, but mine didn't cost that much, and it works fine. You won't be sorry if you get one. We use ours a couple times a week. Carol

  4. Lydia

Yummy for the winter aproaching us now.

  5. Lauren

I saw your site thru Pinterest. I have to try this beef stew recipe some looks so flavorful!
Thank you so much, I'm going to look for a place to sign up for your site.

  6. Morgan

Looks amazing! How long would I cook it on high for?

  7. Afreen

I made beef stew after a very long time and I'm so glad I picked this recipe ! Loved it ! Cooked it on high for 5 hours in slow cooker since I was a little short on time :)

  8. Geoff West

Considering this for dinner tomorrow but wondering if it's enough for ten?

    1. Chef in Training

I would at minimum double it. I would say this recipe serves 5 :)

  9. Kathi Bilkie

Oh my goodness! I made this stew today, still have about 5 hours until dinner, but the house smells AMAZING! I can tell from the smell, this is exactly what I was looking for. I have made stew for years, but it was always missing something. I decided to try your recipe and I can tell already that it will be my go to recipe. I have already sent the recipe to two of my daughters, my youngest baby will be home from work soon and I know she will want the recipe too (she is moving out on her own in a few months). Your recipe will be enjoyed in Arizona today, and in Texas and Michigan very soon!
    Have a great day!

  10. Angie

How long would I cook this recipe in a Dutch oven? It sounds yummy.

  11. Dez

I made it and it was AWSOME!!!!

  12. Shannon

    How many does this serve?

  13. Denise

Looks so rich and delicious! I just put everything in the slow cooker right now and it already smells good! A perfect meal for the first day of fall! Can't wait to try it!

  14. Susie

What is beef broth, is it like beef stock? I am in the UK. Hoping to make this tomorrow ?

    1. Dee

You can find it in the soup aisle of your grocery store. It comes in cartons (Swanson) or soups (Campbells)

  15. Jessica

I made this for dinner tonight and it was delecious! I had some celery on hand and threw it in and since I was out of tomato paste I used some tomato sauce instead. Thanks for a great recipe!

  16. Amanda

About how many people does this recipe serve ? Would it do for 5?

  17. Sybil Norling-Ely

I will brown my onions and meat on stove top first to seal in the juices add the carrots and potatoes stir it all around then transfer to slowcooker and add the rest of the ingredients

  18. Madeleine

    Hi Nikki:
I have just bought my first slow cooker a couple of weeks ago. So glad I found your site! Surfing the internet for recipes is sometimes frustrating with ads and sooo many screens to go to! I have used it only once so far. I made brown beans with port hocks. I was sure it would be delicious but it turned out more like a soup. Obviously, too much water! Anyway, I did some doctoring and I did eat them but was very dissapointed. I will try your recipe and get back to you. I also love to cook.

Do you dissolve the cubes before putting in the slow cooker or just throw them in whole. Just made the stew and its cooking on low but haven't but the cubes in yet.

    1. Chef in Training

I crushed them up over it. So sorry I didn't get to this in time! I hope it turned out :)

  20. Devo. Butner

How many servings does this make? It looks amazing!

  21. Linda Risser

    Can't wait to try this!

  23. Norma Brady

Hi, Im trying this today and it looks great. My only concern is that it may be way too salty with three teaspoons of salt and two bullion cubes? I tasted the liquid after and it seems very salty. Did it seem that way to anyone?

    1. Jennifer

I wondered the same thing. I didn't put the last two bouillon in for fear of how salty it might turn out (if I'd been thinking ahead I would have used the bouillon but not the extra teaspoons of salt). Guess I'll find out this evening. How did yours turn out?

  24. Katie McGrath

I can't wait to try you recipe but, i have a smaller slow cooker how would I make the recipe for my slow cooker. think your recipe is for a larger one ? Any suggestion even someone that has made this before

  25. Daniella

Super disappointed... this didn't turn out at all. The meat could really use browning first and the onion and garlic cooked. It had no flavour and the potatoes, despite being cubed and cooked for 8 hours were still pretty hard :(

  26. Crystal

Followed this exactly & ended up having to take all the potatoes & veggies out & cook them & put them back in. Basically defeated the purpose of being able to just leave it & I definitely cut it all small enough.

  27. Ada

Love this!! Can I make this without a slow cooker and still get the same results?

  28. Adrienne

I made this tonight for dinner and it was so good. The sauce had an amazing flavor and the meat fell apart in my mouth. Received many compliments! Thanks so much for the great recipe!

  29. Angie Senser

I made this today, and it was SO good!! Love that it was super easy to throw together in the crock pot, and it cooked all day making our home smell wonderful, and it seemed to thicken up nicely on its own... perhaps it's because we served it over brown rice. Entire family enjoyed this - thanks for the hearty and simple yet delicious recipe!

  30. Santrice

Cooked it today and it turned out really good. Thanks!!

  31. Brittney

Should I stir it at all during the 6-8 hours??

  32. Cathy

Best stew ever!! Gotta try this one; it was a five star.

  33. Alicia Rivoli

Made this today. It was delicious. My only recommendation is it has no thickening agent in the ingredients. You can take the stew meat and toss it in a flour before adding to the other ingredients and it should thicken it up like a stew. This was more like a soup. My entire family loves it. It will be put on our rotation of winter meals.

  34. leonard

I made this stew today and substituted sweet potatoes for the white one, reduced the broth to 3 cups and add a cup on a dry red wine

  35. Ginger Oliveira

Do you have the nutritional information on this recipe? My husband is on a restricted sodium diet. Thanks!

  36. April

I just put the entire slab of meat in the crock pot?

    1. Chef in Training

This recipe uses stew meat. It should already come cut up into pieces :) Hope that helps.

  37. Amy

    How many will this serve?

  38. Brian Brooks

This looks good! How much does this make? I'm talking liquid measurements. Like how big of a slow cooker will I need?

  39. Carmen charchun

I absolutely loved this recipe. So delicious, only thing I would do different next time is add a bit less salt.

  40. Karen

Really cold day here in the northeast, and had the beef on hand, so I thought a perfect day to try this. Left out the salt and the bouillon, as I felt the broth had enough sodium. Added siliced mushrooms. Just started cooking. Looking forward to it tonight.

  41. Molly

Amazing!!!! Have made it several times! Delicious!

  42. Dennis

Totally awesome stew, I'm adding fresh mushrooms the next time I make it ❤️

  43. rehana

Hi, can I make this with beef strips.. my kids don't enjoy bones... thanks

  44. Jane Miller

Yum I am going to make it but I am using Pheasant the guys just shot at their annual pheasant hunt. I will add a little more seasoning because of the wild taste. And add beef/onion soup mix along with all you ingredients .

  46. Mirna

My family loved it! I was so great, I have to say I was quite surprised, just because it was so easy ! Thank you!

  47. Michelle

I made this tonight, and it was absolutely delicious. The kids had two and three portions of it. Absolutely yummy! Made it with mashed potatoes ...... perfect! I added a little red wine ...... mmmmmmm!!!!!!

  52. Priscilla

I make this recipe all the time, but now I'm watching my weight and I need to know how many servings is this meal?

    1. Chef in Training

  54. Deanna Alderman

  55. Ingrid

I love this recipe! It’s the only stew one I use and have used it quite a few times the
past few winters. It’s easy, rich and warm. Thanks.
