Why, hello there. This is the lucky “guinea pig” who gets to try out all the recipes on the blog, her husband Derek. Jealous much? I thought so.

Today, we are going to shake things up a bit at “Chef in Training”…. meaning, I am taking over today’s post. We both thought this would be a fun idea. Many of you don’t know the husband behind this blog, but trust me, I play a huge role.  I am the taste-tester, the devourer and the legend. I have been blessed with a ridiculously fast metabolism, so pounding all of the food you will find on this blog is pretty easy for me. Lets just say, I am 6’2” and just under 150 pounds. I know… crazy, right? Everyone says it will catch up with me when I turn 30.  That happens to be in 6 more months, so I guess only time will tell.  I am also known as the “big man on campus” at work because I bring in all the goodies my wife cooks up, and trust me, they are incredible.

Many of you wonder where all the food goes, does Nikki ever make the same thing twice, and what are the meals the men in your life are really going to love.  I have been begging my wife to put a “Hubby Favorite” category on her blog for months.

Picture this.  With a new meal everyday, it is hard to remember all of my personal favorites because we rarely have the same dinner twice.  However, when we do, I want it to be one that I loved. My wife typically likes to do her post lists in increments of 5 (OCD much?) but this is my post. The following list are the TOP 13 most scrumptious recipes I have partaken of. Love you babe, don’t hate on the number 13.

Buckle up and get ready to enjoy some of the best recipes you will ever make and that will make your men extremely happy.  If you haven’t made some or any of these yet, shame on you because you are missing out.

Lets get started, shall we? (I had my wife make the graphics because she is awesome like that)

Chicken Cordon Bleu Pasta… If you want to impress your guests, this is restaurant quality.

Pineapple Cheeseball… I ask my wife to take this with us everywhere.  I will call it my BFF.

Easy and Delicious Stuffed Mushrooms… This will make your chest hairs tingle. Unless your are a female, then this got awkward.

Chocolate Chip Pudding Cookies… This is my wife’s secret weapon to getting what she wants.

Buttermilk Pancakes with AMAZING Buttermilk Syrup… This syrup alone could make world peace.

Smothered Chile Colorado Burritos… This is the ultimate Mexican meal.

Wingers Sticky Fingers… I took my wife on our first date to Wingers. We Love going there. This recipe is literally identical to the restaurant.

Buffalo Chicken Dip… No Manapalooza is complete without this on the table.

Baked Chicken Taquitos… Watching the big game? This is a great meal to sit down to.

Hawaiian Haystacks… If Hawaii had a taste, lets just say I found it. This recipe is amazing.

The above recipes were in no particular order, however, the next few are. Here are my TOP 3 Favorite recipes from Chef in Training.

#3. Homemade Oreos… I teach my kids how to share, but I find it impossible with these.

#2. Creamy Broccoli Chicken Casserole… This is like a Lamborghini filled with power tools driven by my wife at maximum speed while playing Call of Duty.

#1. Chicken Pillows… My mom passed this recipe down to my wife, it has stayed with me for 15+ years.  I have yet to find something I love more than these. For now, they stay at the top.

I hope everyone enjoys these recipes as much as me. I am so glad my wife finally caved and let me post on this blog and share with you some of my favorites. I am excited to have a “Hubby Favorite” stamp now, so be on the look out for it in future recipe posts.

This post was awesome! Not only is your husband hilarious, but it was great to see what recipes he really likes. I LOVE trying your recipes and seeing what my husband approves of, but I think the "hubby favorite" stamp will help! Great idea! Love your blog!!!

My husband could have written this post :P I have so many recipes to try that we rarely eat the same thing twice unless it's unbelievably amazing and he begs me to make it again. I made an album on Facebook for him to use for when he can't remember what he liked or what it was called. I'm gonna have to show him the chicken cordon bleu pasta because he has been talking about cordon bleu a lot lately and I've never made it before.

LOL!!!! This little grasshopper obviously is shamed and has much to learn. I have been following for awhile and have tried some recipes, all of which have been delicious! I better try a recipe from above that sends my hubby to the moon, in a Corvette, while playing X-Box! Derek, keep it up. You have a great sense of humor, and it's good to know you are recovering from earlier this year. Nikki, keep up the good work and turn me into a great "chef in training!." :)

"#2. Creamy Broccoli Chicken Casserole… This is like a Lamborghini filled with power tools driven by my wife at maximum speed while playing Call of Duty."
LOVE IT! Sounds like something my husband would say.
Nikki thanks for letting your husband post, I love what he had to say.

  5. Jo

It's so funny, most of the recipes on this list I have made, and they are my boyfriends favorite! I'll have to try the others that made the cut since they seem to have the same taste :)

    Thank you!

  6. Lizzie

Great idea, you two :) I loved this post!

  7. Hayley @ The Domestic Rebel

Derek is awesome! Please get him a monthly column somewhere. "This will make your chest hairs tingle, unless you're a female, then this gets awkward." LOVE IT. And I totally was thinking of doing the same type of post since my family can hardly remember what we had for dinner last night, much less all the stuff I'm constantly making for the blog. Great idea Nikki! Your husband is so funny. Loved this post!!

Derek, you're hilarious! I am definitely making the broccoli casserole soon! And we have been making your mom's chicken pillows recipe for years..it is a favorite around here. Uh, I was also happy to hear that Derek has recently packed on a few pounds so his ribs don't poke out ;) Keep all these great posts coming!

  9. Aimee @ ShugarySweets

Great collection! And great idea for a post! My hubs collection though would not be similar...it would be all the meat on my blog, and chocolate chip cookies! He does not go for all the creamy casseroles and dips. However, I LOVE THOSE!!!

You guys are just too adorable. Nuff said.
I must tell you that Scott's Mom passed down the chicken pillow recipe to me as well (they call them chicken roll ups). We love them too. I can't wait to try some more of your favorites.
Keep the neighborhood real! :) We sure miss it.

  11. Ashley

The husband always know what's up since they get to try the good along with the bad! My husband is my number one taste tester too.

  12. Nicole

Thanks for sharing your faves! I made the stuffed mushrooms for my hubby a couple days ago and he loved them!

  13. Jen Lewis

Derek I'm so happy you got your Hubby's Favorite stamp. You have been talking about that non-stop in the office! Just kidding, but really. I'm not. But I am. Kind of. I absolutely loved this post, so funny! Keep bringing samples of Nikki's creations. :)

  14. Jenn@eatcakefordinner

Ha- what a funny post! You should do this more often. I love that the majority of the hubby's favorite main dishes include chicken. Most of the men in my family go for the beef or pork before the chicken. I tend to always pick the chicken dishes too! (P.S. to the Hubby: I really hope it doesn't catch up with you when you are 30, because I really really like the stuff Nikki makes - diet food isn't always as fun)!!!

  15. Mom of 5

I loved reading this post. However, our husbands are absolutely NOTHING alike. Mine doesn't like chicken, mushrooms, pineapple....really not much of anything that doesn't include ground beef (yuck)! The rest of this list could easily be favorites for the kids and I. We will definately be trying out the few we haven't while my husband is stationed overseas this year!!!
Love you blog! Love your recipes! You save me on a regular basis!!!

  16. Jocelyn @BruCrew Life

Nikki and Derek this was such a fun post to read!! Love hearing from the main recipe tester!!! My hubby now wants to know when he can hijack mine:-)

  17. Angela @ AnotherBitePlease

I love this list! And we have tried several of hubby's favorites -and they too have become our household favorites. You can not go wrong with the chicken pillows!!!!!! It is like a hug of love on a plate - love serving to my boys!

  18. Reese

Love the hubbys favorite list. My grandmother made buttermilk pancakes also . The syrup is new to me snd cant wait to try it slong with several other recipes here. Thanks for giving hubby the blog for the day.

  19. Shekinah

Well all these give me a good base to start for my Hubby to be Matt. I am sure he will be happy as he isn't too fussy about food :)
