Let me first start off by saying this is in no way a sponsored post. I saw a product I wanted, bought it, tried it out for myself and LOVE it and want to tell you all about it.
I have searched high and low for a great blender. In my almost 7 years of marriage, I have gone through like 5 blenders. That is a lot. They start smelling like burning metal, bread down or the blades are just weak sauce. Not to mention, whenever I made shakes or smoothies they had chunks of either fruit or ice still in them. They were NEVER SMOOTH-ies.
So I have been doing my research and decided to finally bite the bullet and buy a Vitamix. The reviews I read were amazing. Then I went to Costco and saw them doing their demonstrations and I was sold. Since buying this blender a week or so ago, I have been making smoothies every day. We are talking like Jamba Juice quality smoothies. If you aren’t using a Vitamix to make these, which you totally don’t have to, you might have to add some liquid like water or juice to thin your smoothie out a bit and get a good blend.
Now lets talk about today’s smoothie. It is AMAZING! I have been on a healthier eating kick lately and have been really enjoying smoothies. They are perfect for this 100+ degree weather this summer. Best part of all about this particular smoothie, is that I was able to sneak in almost 2 cups of spinach into this recipe and my kids DOWNED it! They have no idea I fooled them into eating their veggies :) I threw in some of our favorite fruits and voilà! We have a new drink we all love! The fruit provides such a sweet balance that you would never guess there was any vegetable in this (minus the green color). Try it, you are going to be surprised by how much you love it.
- ½ banana
- 1 orange, peeled
- 1 thin slice of lime
- ½ cup chopped pineapple
- 1½ cups fresh spinach
- 3 Tablespoons agave
- 1 cup ice
- Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth. Add water or apple juice as needed to thin out.
This recipe was inspired by a demonstration I saw using the Vitamix at Costco :)

Congrats on your new Vitamix! I got mine almost 7 years ago because my daughter was just starting solids and I needed to start making baby food and nothing else was really giving me that smoooooth texture I wanted. Fast forward to today, two cookbooks and my blog 5+ years worth of recipes later, and my Vita is as good as new. It's truly the investment of a lifetime and trust me girl, I have used and abused mine. Whoa :) I love this green SMOOTHie :) Pinned!
The word is "voilà," not "wah-la." It's French, meaning "Here it is!"

thanks for the correction :) All fixed now.
I am loving the way I feel after drinking a green smoothie every morning before work! I feel so energized and ready for the day! Thanks for sharing this recipe!

A Vitamix has been on my wish list for a while now, but my Ninja is holding up great in the meantime. Smoothies should live up to their name and not contain chunks :) Thanks for sharing this delicious recipe, Nikki!
I hear you on the blender frustration. We've been married 4 years and are on our 3rd blender. My brother- and sister-in-law bought us the Ninja for Christmas last year and we love it!
In related news, having a good blender definitely makes making smoothies more enjoyable and we've been having them much more often. Well, that and milkshakes. ;)
Your green smoothie looks great and sounds delicious - I bet it's the pineapple that masks the spinach. We'll have to give it a try soon.
I'm so happy to hear you bought a Vitamix! I purchased one at the Del Mar Fair this summer. Honestly, I have used it every day since. I hope to see some great recipes for the Vitamix on your site. Their tortilla soup is terrific. I have food allergies and can easily adapt any recipe with the foods I'm allowed. You can count on a jump in people visiting your site once the word gets out...
I'm always looking for smoothie ideas (vs recipes as I tend to not follow quantities), so thanks for posting this. I'm glad you didn't wait as long as I did to get your Vitamix....50 years. LOL I got mine a few weeks ago and have been making smoothies each day since. I'm also looking forward to trying out soups and ice cream, so any recipes you you on that..... Just an FYI, if someone doesn't have (or use) agave, a date or two will sweeten things up like you wouldn't believe!
Enjoy your Vitamix and look forward to more recipes. I'm anxious to try your coconut-nutella cake and blackberry blueberry pie, but think I'm going to have to make a heap more smoothies before I can indulge in those goodies.
I also recently bought a Vitamix and maker green smoothies every morning. Best thing I ever did for myself.
WARNING! It's true...this smoothie IS delicious. However, for anyone suffering from IBS or any other digestive condition it's worth my time to warn you that you may experience a miserable day after drinking this. The overabundance of agave in this recipe can result in bloating, gas, and diarrhea. This was my experience and lasted well into the night. At first I thought it might be attributed to the kale that I substituted. I decided to check the side effects of agave, and there they were: bloating, gas and diarrhea. It was suggested that anyone suffering from IBS to substitute an artificial sweetener. I have not tried this yet, but I think I will try to substitute honey and decrease the amount to one or two tablespoons the next time I try this recipe. Hopefully this will be successful because the smoothie is really very good.
I made this last night for my husband and I. It is sooo good. When every I attempt to make a green smoothies it always tasts like grass and this one doesn't. It is soooo good. I froze 4 bags of the ingredients in my fridge so I can make them on the go.
