I really wish you would consider posting serving amounts with your recipes. It would be a great help. Thanks!

I've made homemade applesauce for years but I never put sugar in it. If you use a sweeter variety of apple, it's plenty sweet enough. No need for extra sugar!

I agree! I'm omitting the sugar!

i love apple sauce but i never know which apples are the best to use, which type of apple do you use for your apple sauce?

As I mention below different apples are sold in different places. In the northern part of the US, Jonathans, Winesap, Cortland, MacIntosh, Transparents. I live in TX and the selection is small. I find Fuji, Jonagold, Gala, Braeburn, and others.

Two suggestions on the applesauce. Not everyone knows that there are cooking apples and apples that won't cook up. So the recipe needs to specify cooking apples. My second thought is that a combination of cooking apples makes a tastier applesauce. Different parts of the US has different kinds of apples so you need to look in your area and try a selection of your own. It is surprising how many people have never made applesauce or tasted it homemade. There are many ways to prepare the apples before cooking. If you are making a large quantity, it is best to wash the apples, cut into quarters or smaller. Remove any bad spots and seed. They they can be put through a Foley mill or other sieves that will remove skin, and seeds left.. The applesauce is much smoother made this way. Applesauce made from peeled apples can be mashed with a potato masher.

I love to make homemade applesauce, though I do mine in the slow cooker. I love to eat it warm! This looks so delicious and it is making me want to make some!

This can also be made in the crock pot. No blender required!

I tried this with granny smith apples. The flavor was good but using the immersion blender resulted in ultra smooth (no texture) apple sauce. As in baby food. I prefer a little texture to my apple sauce.

When my grandma makes her cinnamon applesauce she adds red hots (like the candy) instead of actual cinnamon. So delicious!!

I've just made this apple sauce, think I may have blitzed it a bit too much. Does yours have lumps still in it, like shop bought? It does taste like apple sauce though :-)

[…] My mother is excellent at making jams and jellies and applesauce. Really all the things I’ve never been interested in making before now. So she lent me this press strainer thing that mushes up the apples really well after they’ve been cooked. I give her a lot of credit, it’s a lot of work that goes into making all these kinds of things. And patience that I don’t always have. The recipe I went with was not from my mother. She said that with hers I would have cooked the apples whole and then mushed them in the strainer and added the other ingredients. She didn’t have an actual recipe, she said it was just something she did. Crazy lady. So I ended up going with a recipe from Chef In Training.  […]
