Cannoli Dip

Food and I have a crazy relationship. When I taste something amazing, I go weak in the knees. Yes, I have a love affair with food :)

Have you tried a cannoli before? If not, I dare say you are missing out! They are spectacular! A crispy outside.. and that interior… YUM! Then it dawned on me, how perfect would it be to make a dip out of the insides!?! And it was just that… perfect.

I browsed the internet and found it had been done before, a couple times in fact. I played around with some recipes and found what I think to be the perfect recipe. I adapted a recipe from Cooking Classy and the end result is PERFECTION! I found some waffle crisp cookies, that resemble a waffle cone down the cookie aisle at my grocery store. They were fantastic with this dip and really made the cannoli feel complete. You can dip whatever you would like to though!

This would be a hit at your next get together!

Cannoli Dip... This dip is INCREDIBLE! It literally tastes just like a cannoli and is SO simple to make!

I just made this dip and it came out like soup. There is no thickness to it! What the heck did I do wrong? I followed the recipe to a T. I am pretty upset because I don't have time to re-make and/or try something different. I am hoping that it thickens up in the fridge before my guests arrive tonight!! I am very disappointed!

I am so sorry you ran into trouble! I know how frustrating that can be. Mine wasn't soupy at all. I will be retesting the recipe just to make sure. In cases like that, You can always add cream cheese or omit the milk or use a bit more powdered sugar to get your desired consistency. Again, I am so sorry. I will update with my results if anything needs changing.

I have had this happen as well...to remedy it, I actually whip the heavy cream separately, the a it to the other ingredients....perfect everytime!!

I didnt even put cream in and it got soupy after putting podered sugar in i used micellis cheeses. They were thick but got souoy when mixed

This turned out like soup for me as well. I'm extremely disappointed and annoyed since marscapone is not cheap and I had to go to three stores to find it. I believe the problem here is a big step you left out of your directions that was included in the original recipe. You have to strain the ricotta!

Thank you so much for your comment. I have retested the recipe and you are correct. I am so sorry and apologize that this step was not included in my recipe. I have added to the recipe now. Thank you for taking the time to comment and let me know and again I apologize for the soupy dip you ended up with.

This was gross. It tasted like powder sugar and vanilla. It sucks because I was really wanting this to taste good. That was a waste d money!

Just like other comments, mine was initially soupy when i combined the ingredients. Once I used my electric mixer for several minutes, it became thick and smooth. Delicious!

Great tip to use electric mixer!! Was soupy but after using mixer set up nicely! I did not add all of powder sugar. Like mine on the less sweet side. 3/4 C worked great. I also added mini chocolate chips in the dip then crushed pistachios for the top before serving. YUM

I made this for an office potluck -admittedly my first attempt was soupy and gross, but I tried again and drained the ricotta really well and it turned out perfect!! They loved it and I'll definitely be making it again!!

Awful. Definitely like soup, even after draining ricotta Would not thicken after adding more cream and beating with mixer.
Waste of money, time and need for dip

This was delicious! But mine came out very watery. My sister made it as well and did not add the cream and hers was perfect. I wonder if you should whip the cream first or eliminate all together. Thanks for a yummy desert!

  13. Kristen

I think you need to whip the heavy cream or the dip will be watery which is what happened to me. I made again and left it out all together and it was much better!!

  14. Kristen

The cream needs to be whipped or left out all together. If you just add the cream the dip is watery but otherwise delicious!

I made recipe according to directions but have never used ricotta before and didn't think it needed strained.. There was no excess fluid... It came out very soupy and also a little grainy. I sort of salvaged it by adding 8oz of cream cheese and about 1 cup extra of powdered sugar.

This recipe is delicious everytime and the consistency of a cannoli filling with whole milk ricotta and no heavy cream.

Just made this, came out yummy and perfect! After seeing some of the comments about the consistency, I whipped the heavy cream, then folded it into the cheeses. I also sifted the powdered sugar when adding it. Had to stop myself from just eating it out of the bowl by spoonful!
