A dump, pour and bake recipe is the best kind! I despise making things like pancakes for a crowd that you have to babysit and are slave to the stove the whole time. Love this, Nikki! pinned

Hi Nikki! Quick question for ya... Can this be made without the Picante sauce? Would I need to replace it with something else if I did omit it? I want to try this but Picante sauce is not something we ever have on hand and my kids are not fond of salsa flavors. Thanks for any insight you have.

    1. Chef in Training

Definitely! It just adds some salsa flavor, but if your kids aren't a fan of it, you can totally omit it!

Hi! How long can you save the leftovers? (would make an easy grab and go breakfast throughout the week)

    1. susan privette

      My exact question too.

I have made this twice now and it is delicious! I did add salt and pepper though. The first time i used picante sauce and the second time i used salsa. Not sure what the difference is between the two, but i liked the picante sauce better, which is what the recipe calls for, but my husband picked up salsa instead. It was still really good though!!

Can't deal with the sour cream. Is there a good substitute?

    1. Dale

Plain Fat Free Greek Yogurt is an excellent sub for sour cream.

  11. Allie

Hi! This looks great, anything I can sub for the Picante? Our family doesn't like Salsa :(

I didn't see where you have the nutritional values listed in this recipe. I would be interested in seeing that information posted along with the recipe.

    Thank you.

Is this something that you could make at the beginning of the week and reheat later? Does it still taste ok?

I have made this several times for breakfast for church. It's so easy to throw together and bakes just as your directions state. I always come home with an empty dish!

Made this today and my husband said it looked and tasted restaurant worthy! I halved the recipe and it worked great for same amount of time. This will definitely go on my Christmas morning menu when the gang is all here!

P.S. I put diced avocado on top too.

I am asking a question to which I did not see a reply, although asked a couple of times. Can this be put together the night before and baked in the morning?

This looks great. I would probably add veggies like onion and red capsicum, maybe mushrooms and hash browns…What do you think?

I've made this three times and am in the process of shredding cheese for another go tomorrow. Everyone loves the texture and taste. It stays hot for a long time, which is nice for a buffet breakfast. The picante on the bottom adds exactly the right touch of flavor. This time around, I'm using a pepperjack cheese for a little more zing. Thanks for the recipe!

Served this for Mother's Day and everyone loved it. So easy and so good!

  23. Kris

For as long as I can remember we have had this on Christmas morning along with monkey bread. We omit the salsa and line the buttered baking dish with sliced cheese. Works with bacon or sausage or both! You can even add some sautéed veggies Reheats okay the next day but really best fresh.
