The Best Sloppy Joes
Who doesn’t love a good sloppy joe!?! They are just delicious and were a staple in my home growing up.
We had these at our 4th of July BBQ and it was a hit! I found this recipe at Mel’s Kitchen Cafe (one of my favorite foodie blogs) and it was completely gone by the end of the night… Everyone loved and devoured it! I know this will be a hit with your family, too!
THE BEST SLOPPY JOES
recipe from: Mels Kitchen Cafe
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
2 medium onions, roughly chopped
2 ½ lbs. ground beef
2 Tbsp. tomato paste
2/3 cup BBQ sauce
½ cup ketchup
¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
¼ cup soy sauce
Freshly ground black pepper
8 to 12 potato rolls
Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring, until they start to turn translucent, about 4 minutes. Add the beef and cook, stirring and breaking up the meat, until it is finely crumbled, the liquid boils off and the meat begins to brown, about 10 minutes. Drain the grease off the meat and onions. Stir in the tomato paste, and keep stirring until the meat is coated. Add the BBQ sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire, soy sauce, and pepper, and bring to a boil. Cook until the sauce is slightly thickened, 4 to 5 minutes. You can make the sloppy joe meat up to 2 days in advance and reheat it over low heat or in the microwave.
Wrap the rolls in aluminum foil and warm in the oven for about 10 minutes.
Serve the sloppy joes hot with the warmed rolls.
*Freezable Meals: The leftover sloppy joes can be frozen. Store it in a freezer-safe container and then thaw in the refrigerator prior to serving. Reheat on medium-low heat in a saucepan on the stove.

I add just a little bit of dill pickle juice., Yummy!

I LOVE sloppy joes! Problem is, I think my family grew up eating canned sloppies and therefore, usually aren't thrilled to eat them. I must make this version and convert them to the real deal sloppy joes because these look awesome!

These look so great! For a second, I thought I saw bacon, and then I thought-- how good would that be in a sloppy joe???
My experience is that the bacon gets soggy... little bit gross. Recommendation: cook separately and use as a topping.

Just made these and they are indeed the best Sloppy Joe's I have ever made. I do make them often, as my 8 eight year old son is a huge fan. As a veggie, I substituted faux meat and it was greatly enjoyed by the whole fam! Thanks for sharing, off to a quick post-dinner clean up~

Sloppy joes are the meal I fix our first night of our beach vacation. You HAVE to toast the buns though! Oh so yummy!
I make my sloppy joe the same way except I add brown sugar and only use worcestshire unless I have none then I use soy sauce...
Since I'm only cooking for my husband and myself - 2 1/2 lbs of beef would be too much. (although I could freeze leftovers) but I usually only buy 1 lb beef at a time. Any idea on what the measurements would be on all the ingredients?
Could you do these in the crockpot?
I make it in the crockpot, on low for 4-6 hours and just double the sauce and add some water (most will evaporate out)

What kind of BBQ sauce do you use?
These were good with turkey, onion, carrot, and green bell pepper instead of the beef. Made a half batch and it was enough for 4. Left out the tomato paste.
good but a little to sweet.
These were ok. I had to modify the a bit because the soy sauce and worchestershire sauce were too strong of flavors (and I didn't add a full1/4 cup). I added the whole can of tomato paste. That helped. Next time I think I will do 1tbsp of the two instead of 1/4 cup.
Excited to make these. I always make the same Sloppy Joes, a sweet tasting recipe. Will give these a try. What BBQ sauce do you use? There are so many out there?
Made this for dinner tonight, big hit. Served with corn on the cob and garden salad.

Just made these tonight! As someone who grew up on the canned stuff I never liked Sloppy Joes...these....not even in the same category! SOOOOOO good! I LOVE them. Oh and my kiddos too :) I made the batch so I could freeze some and I'm excited for the next time. Thanks!

Delicious! I have a lot of organic ground beef (which is lean) to use up, this recipe tastes great! Never miss the missing fat from the beef. I will make this again.
We eat Sloppy Joes once or twice a month because it is easy to throw together. This is the Best we have ever had... Awesome. A new favorite...
This has been my go to recipe for sloppy joes for at least 3 years now! My family loves them!
For everyone asking what kind of bbq sauce to use, I prefer Sweet Baby Rays. I've used the original flavor and the hickory & brown sugar. Both are great!!
One suggestion I have is to use reduced sodium Worcester sauce and soy sauce. I think it's too salty with the original kind, and we are a salt loving family. Lol.
Gets better everytime I make it. Only use 1 1/2lbs. of 80/20 instead of 2 1/2. Otherwise I use everything else jist the way it is. Fantabulous with her homemade Mac and Cheese. Dinner just like my mother used to make except the smoke alarm isnt going off...
