Turtle Brownies

You know those easy recipes that are almost too good to be THAT easy?! This is one of those.

This little treasure has been sitting in my grandmas recipe book for decades- No joke- And I never even knew it was in there. That was until a couple weekends ago when I went to my cute cousins wedding. My cute uncle made ALL the goodies for my cousin’s reception. They included some Oreo Truffles (courtesy of this blog), some gourmet style cookies and these little beauties. Isn’t he incredible?! I love coming from a family of bakers and cooks :)

I took one bite of these brownies and BEGGED him for the recipe! They were and are seriously OUTSTANDING! He told me the recipe was right there in my grandmas cookbook and my jaw about dropped. All this time, this glorious recipe had been sitting there right beneath my nose and I had no idea! So thank my grandma for this one, you will LOVE them! I could easily eat a whole pan. I wish I were kidding, so out the door they have to go lol!

Turtle Brownies from chef-in-training.com ...This recipe is INCREDIBLE! You will never guess how easy they are to make!

Turtle Brownies

This recipe is INCREDIBLE! Chocolate, caramel and pecans all crammed into one soft, ooey-gooey delicious brownie!
Author:
Recipe type: Dessert
Ingredients
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix, dry
  • ¾ cup butter, melted
  • ⅓ cup evaporated milk
Caramel
  • 12 oz. bag caramel cubes unwrapped, approx. 44 caramels
  • ⅓ cup evaporated milk
Remaining Ingredients
  • ⅔ cup milk chocolate chips
  • ⅔ cup coarsely chopped pecans
Instructions
  1. Combine cake mix, butter and ⅓ cup evaporated milk and mix thoroughly together in a large bowl. (NOTE: You can add the pecans in the brownie batter if you would like, I add it as a layer in the middle and will do so in the instructions.)
  2. Press one half of batter down evenly on the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 7 minutes.
  3. While first half of batter is baking, make caramel. Add caramel and ⅓ cup evaporated milk in a medium microwave safe bowl. Heat in 30 second increments, stirring between each increment until caramel and milk have melted and blended together smoothly.
  4. After first half of batter has baked for 7 minutes, pull out pan and evenly pour and carefully spread caramel on top.
  5. Next evenly layer chocolate chips and pecans over top the caramel.
  6. Tope with the second half of batter. Do so by pressing small pieces flat in between your hands and evenly placing it over the top of the caramel/chocolate chips/pecans until covered.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees F for 5-7 more minutes or until done.

Enjoy!

I love Turtles and I bet I'd love these. And how fun that you discovered a recipe that had been there all along. Wonder what other little treasures there are now for you to discover, too! Pinned!

These are oh so good! Everyone will ask you for the recipe! I have this same recipe only mine calls for a layer of coconut as well with the pecans and chocolate chips and it makes them just that much more out of this world. My mom occasionally toasts the coconut before hand too, just another added bonus!

Yummy!!! 2 questions for you- Can I use dark chocolate chips? What do you think about using a bottle of the caramel sundae syrup? Thank you for sharing your grandma's recipe with us.

I live in Norway and I love trying out your recipes. However, it's difficult when you use ready-to-use products like cake mixes, Crescent rolls etc. Is it possible to give out an alternative "do it yourself from scratch"link? Thank you for all your great recipes, sweets, desserts and dinners all look yummy!
