Key Lime Pie

When I was pregnant with my second child, my husband and I took a cruise to the Bahamas. One of the stops along the way was in Key West, Florida. It was there I had my first Key Lime Pie. Crazy that it took me so long, huh?

Believe it or not, I am not typically a pie person. You may have gathered that based on my slim selection of pies on this blog. That being said, you know when I post a pie recipe, it has to be a good one! The key lime flavor of this pie is amazing! And the Nilla Wafer crust complements this pie perfectly. If you are looking for a refreshing dessert for your next gathering, give this recipe a try! It screams summer!

Key Lime Pie from chef-in-training.com …This pie is FABULOUS! It is so quick and easy and the vanilla wafer crust compliments it perfectly!

Love this easy no bake alternative! Key lime pie has always been the most amazing dessert!

I love key lime pie and yours looks awesome! Pinned :) I recently made some key lime bars and squeezed no kidding like 25 key limes just to get enough juice - never again and will be buying the already squeezed juice from now on..ha! :) Pinned!

Where can I buy Key Lime juice?

    1. Chef in Training

orry I probably should clarify that in the recipe. I used fresh key limes and squeezed the juice from them. The key limes are usually found by the jalapeños. It does take a lot to obtain the 1/2 cup. If you can’t find them, you can use regular limes and or bottled lime juice. Hope that helps :)

Most grocery stores carry it. Usually beside bottles of Real Lemon Juice, in the aisle with canned fruit.

Dumb question here, so please excuse my ignorance. Where does one buy key lime juice? In the grocery store? Is it by the lemon juice? Thank you!!

Can you turn this into a no-bake cheese cake?

    1. Chef in Training

definitely! Just buy one of the pre made crusts at the grocery store :)

It may sound odd, but the key lime pie also tastes great with an oreo crust. I never thought chocolate and lime would work together.

Is key lime juice different from jist lime juice and if so where can I buy it?

I just used lime juice (not key lime-a lime is a lime). The limes were 40 cents a piece at my local supermarket. Multiply that by 20-something and it can add up! I found a 4 oz bottle of just Lime Juice, by the limes in the produce section. It was the perfect amount as the recipe called for. It taste wonderful! This recipe was great, I recommend it! If you want to get crafty like me, I bought 1 lime and used it to garnish the top of the pie. It looked adorable!

You can buy bottled key lime juice...it will be next to the bottled lemon juice. In my grocery store it is in the fruit juice aisle. If your store doesn't carry key lime juice, you can use regular lime juice. :)

What size can of condensed milk? (I'm assuming the large 12 oz can?)

Key Lime Pie is hands down my favorite pie. The change up of Nilla Wafers in lieu of graham crackers sounds quite delicious.

Definitely worth the try! I made this tonight for my boyfriend because Key LimePie is his favorite. I never made it before, but this recipe was soooo easy and it doesn't call for many ingredients at all! My boyfriend absolutely loved it! He was so surprised, & it turned out soo pretty! This was the best Key Lime Pie I ever tried, and I usually don't like it. Thanks for the recipe, this will be a staple in our kitchen!

Oh btw I saw the previous post and I just picked up a little 4 oz bottle of lime juice and we couldn't tell the difference! It saved A LOT of money and time not having to squeeze 20-something limes. I did buy 1 lime to garnish the top on the pie with though. It looked and taste so wonderful! Save yourself the time and messy squeezing. Limes aren't cheap when you multiply it by 20!

    Looks so good will try

    Hi Nikki,
Love this recipe! I would like to make this pie, but can you tell me what Nilla Wafers are? Can i substitute them with plain vanilla wafers? I am from the Netherlands and we don't know Nilla Wafers. This pie looks so great, i hope you can help me!
    Kind regards, marjolein.

Key Limes are usually sold for 20/$1. The most expensive I have ever seen them is 12/$1. They are east to juice if you have a little hand reamer. It only takes me 5-8 minutes at the most and Key Lime juice is so much better that regular lime juice. The bottled Key Lime juice is okay but fresh is better. I would add a teaspoon or two of Key Lime zest.

In Florida we substitute 8 oz of cream cheese for the whipped cream and sugar and its heavenly!
