Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

I LOVE Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches! The flavor combo is amazing and is something I am always on the look out for at a good sandwich place. When I saw this recipe I immediately though what a fun spin on a classic it was. This recipe is SO easy to put together and tastes AMAZING!  It would also make for a great game day sandwich!

Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

Prep Time 20 minutes
Servings 4
Calories 709kcal

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 green pepper chopped
  • 2 Tablespoons steak sauce
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 subway rolls
  • 1 Tablespoon butter
  • 1 Tablespoon flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup provolone shredded

Instructions

  • In large skillet over medium-high heat, heat oil and then brown the ground beef until completely cooked through and juices run clear.
  • Add the onion and green pepper to the beef and cook another 3-4 minutes, until the vegetables start to become tender.
  • Stir in the steak sauce and beef stock. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook about 2 minutes.
  • Split open rolls and remove some of the soft insides, leaving a bed to hold the meat mixture. Toast the rolls and set aside.
  • While the meat is cooking, melt the butter in a medium sauce pan. When butter is melted, stir in the flour and cook about 1 minute until a roux is formed. Whisk in milk and let sauce thicken to desired consistency, stirring constantly. Turn off heat and stir the cheese.
  • To serve, place a scoopful of the meat mixture onto the bottom of the rolls, then top with the cheese sauce and replace the top of the roll.

This recipe sounds delicious! I just have one question. Is there a need to brown the ground beef after you brown it in this recipe? Thanks in advance!

I have a similar recipe but instead of ground beef, you get thin sliced roasted beef from the deli. It's one of my go to easy meals plus my husband loves it because it tastes delicious!

I made these because I LOVE Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches but I can NEVER get the roast beef just right. This was simple and delicious. For some strange reason, I would never have thought to add steak sauce to ground beef.....I know, go figure. LOL. My cheese sauce ended up a little bit gritty but it was probably operator error. I will definitely be making these again but I may just melt some cheese on my sammies next time instead of trying again on the sauce. Thanks for the great recipe. Keep 'em coming. (0=

I made these tonight and they were great. We added Italian dressing on sandwiches before serving and that made them even better. the Italian dressing gave an extra flavor that was soooo good. I will make this again!
