Orange Rolls

Prep Time 20 minutes

rise time 2 hours 30 minutes

Ingredients 

  • 1 Tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups warm milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 Tablespoons orange zest
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 5 cups flour

Frosting

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 3 Tablespoons orange juice
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 16 ounces powdered sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon orange zest

Instructions

  • Stir yeast, warm milk, oil, salt and sugar together and let stand 5 minutes to get the yeast activated.
  • Mix in remaining ingredients and add as much flour as needed for soft dough.
  • Knead 10 minutes.
  • Cover and let rise until dough has doubled in size.
  • Mix down.
  • Put on floured board and let rise an additional 10 minutes.
  • Roll 18 in x 10 in rectangle and about 1.5 inches thick.
  • Cut in half (9 in x 10 in).
  • Cut into 1/2 inch strips.
  • Tie each strip into a knot.
  • Rise on greased cookie sheet for about 45 minutes.
  • Bake at 400 F for 12 minutes.

Frosting

  • Cream butter in a medium mixing bowl.
  • Add remaining ingredients and beat until smooth.
  • You can add more milk or powdered sugar to get it to the consistency you want it.
