I can’t believe the 4th of July is less than a week away! How has half the year gone by already?!

They 4th of July happens to be one of my FAVORITE holidays! Not only do I love that we get to celebrate our country and our freedom, but I love BBQs, potlucks and get togethers with family and friends!

Every 4th of July we get together with both mine and my husband’s family’s on different days, so we get double the food and double the fun!

I have already been brainstorming what delicious treat I am going to make for the festivities.

As I was thinking, I reflected back on one of my earliest recipes, my Blueberry Danish Puff.

It is widely popular wherever I take it. I have made it for multiple occasions for various parties, showers and events. It is always one of the first things to disappear and is always requested again and again.

Then it occurred to me. Why not transform one of my classics into an adorable American Flag?! Is this not one of the cutest desserts you have ever seen?! And not only that, but I will be bold enough to tell you it will be one of THE BEST tasting desserts you will ever try.

I love the fresh fruit paired with the cream cheese filling and buttery puff pastry. The glaze on top really knocks it out of the park! You most definitely need to make this for your holiday gatherings this weekend! You will NOT regret it in the slightest and you will probably be the talk of the party! :)

Recipe type: Dessert
Ingredients
  • 1 box puff pastry {2 sheets}, thawed to room temperature
Cream Cheese Filling
  • 1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese, softened
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon Almond Extract
  • ⅓ cup blueberries
  • 1½ cups raspberries
Frosting
  • 1¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 6 Tablespoons Heavy Cream
  • 1 teaspoon Almond Extract
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper and open pastry and place one sheet on the cookie sheet. With a small roller smooth out the creases. Set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix softened cream cheese, sugar and almond extract together until well blended. Spread on top of pastry sheet.
  4. Place blueberries in the upper left corner for the blue part of the flag. Open the other pastry sheet and cut 7 (1/2 inch-3/4 inch) strips and place them in stripes on the flag, making sure to leave about a 1 inch space between each strip. For the two stripes by the blueberries, trim them as necessary to fit. They will be smaller than the others in length.
  5. Place the raspberries in between the pastry stripes to make the red stripes.
  6. With the remaining dough cut small stars and place over the blueberries.
  7. Bake at 375 degrees F and bake for 25-35 minutes or until golden brown.
Frosting
  1. Place all the frosting ingredients in a small mixing bowl and mix well.
  2. Drizzle over the warm pastry and serve.
  3. Can also be served room temperature.

I made this for a July 4th party and it was a big hit. It was so easy to make, delicious and beautiful. The only thing I would suggest is to wait for it to cool before putting on the icing so it looks like the picture. I will definitely be making this again.

Hello, I made this for two 4th of July parties this past weekend. It's super easy to assemble and it tasted outstanding!! I found that drizzling the icing after it cools looks better.....it soaked in more when it was warm, but either way this was sooooo very delicious and very festive!! Thanks for the recipe!!
