I have an eggnog recipe tomorrow and if I had any leftover, I'd be making these! They look so soft and perfect and I love how you always add frosting or a ganache or something to your cookies. Why not :) Looks amazing as always!

  2. mira

I love eggnog in baking and these cookies look fabulous! Definitely trying them soon!

  3. Emily @ Life on Food

I need at least another week before Christmas if for no other reason but to enjoy it a bit longer. These cookies look perfect.

Made these on New Years Day with my niece. They are wonderful. I like softer cookies so I baked them right in the middle at 11 minutes. Next time I might do 10:30. The dough is somewhat wet so I didn't try rolling into balls but rather did small dropfuls of dough onto the cookie sheet and they look very similar to the picture. I only used 4 tbsp. of eggnog in the frosting and it was perfect. If you like a thinner frosting then go with the 5 tbsp. but I like a heavier/thicker frosting. I had about a quarter cup leftover and frosted the cookies pretty heavily. and that was for 4.5 dozen cookies. Will definitely see what else you have to try.

So all I need now is the recipe for the eggnog

  6. Bailey

Hi - do these freeze well?thanks looking forward to trying the recipe!

    1. Elizabeth

Did you try freezing things? I came to the comments looking for the answer to the same question.

    2. Christina

I'm also wondering how well they freeze - would you freeze them frosted, or freeze and then frost upon thawing?? Thanks!

I froze these without frosting, then put the frosting on when they thawed. The turned out wonderfully!

I have frozen them with frosting 3 years in a row. I just make sure to put parchment paper between the layers. They are lovely heated up in the microwave.

  7. Donna

I have never cared for eggnog because it's just too rich. But I will, definitely, be trying this recipe! I'll be sure to come back to rate it. :)

do the egg nogg cookies have to be refrigerated?

    1. Laura

That's what I was wondering..cause we never have room in the fridge around the holidays

Made these last Thursday and they are AMAZING! I've brought them over to some friends and family to try and they loved them. What a great recipe.

Quick note: I saw some comments about how the frosting is a little runny. I started off with less than the suggested amount of eggnog and just added a bit more as I needed. Also, I used an electric hand mixer and it really created a great texture in the frosting. Wasn't runny as all.

Keep up the great work :)

4 stars - These cookies turned out yummy. The Frosting was particularly sweet and stiffened up perfectly. Exactly the type of Frosting you want on a sugar cookie.
However, I did not notice the eggnog flavor as much as I was hoping. I get you can only add so much liquid to the semi stiff dough, but dang. I called them spice cookies, I didn't want anyone to be disappointed at the lack of eggnog as I was. :/ still yummy, just not the eggnog punch I wanted.

    1. Marlene

I left out the nutmeg in my frosting and the eggnog flavour was more noticeable.

  11. Lori

My cookies didn't flatten out, but instead basically stayed in mounds. Thoughts?

And they were really too sticky to roll into balls so I had to add more flour.

These are so delicious and will be making them again.

I've never really baked anything until the last couple of weeks. An unfortunate side effect of ADD is that following recipes is really hard! For some reason, the last couple of weeks it is better controlled than usual. I've made half a dozen or so holiday cookie recipes in the last couple of weeks, most were pretty good. These... whoa! The only thing I would change is the amount of frosting. It's too much! I might also try freezing in a tube and cutting to make them uniform and more attractive. I couldn't roll them because the dough was too wet, so I did drop cookies. They weren't beautiful but they are hands down the tastiest cookies I've ever made!

I made these for the first time with my kids. They are fabulous! Everyone liked them and I've now eaten way too many!

Dough was so wet and sticky it was IMPOSSIBLE to roll into balls. 3/4 of the raw dough went into the trash, what a waste!

Love these cookies, something different for our Christmas celebration. Keep up the good work. I love your blog.

these cookies were delicious. I don't like eggnog either but these are very good. I used a cookie scoop and dropped them on my cookie sheet. So moist and the icing topped them off nicely.

    Thanks for Sharing!

We'll...I was disappointed. I thought the cookies lacked flavor. I'm lactose intolerant so I made my own eggnog (whole milk, sugar, egg yolk, nutmeg). Grew up on a farm so I'm used to homemade. Couldn't find store bought lactose free eggnog anywhere. Icing recipe is WAY too big. I cut it in half and still had half of that left over. I can't tolerate too much icing. My son likes eggnog so I hope he likes them.

Second attempt: I added a scant 1/2 tsp of French vanilla extract & the smallest dash of rum extract in addition to vanilla. I refrigerated the dough to stiffen it up enough to roll it into balls. It baked up beautifully. The flavour was destinctively eggnog this time! Thank you for this lovely recipe.

Just wondering should they be kept in fridge. Because of the raw eggnog in the frosting. I jared the frosting and in fridge so if we want a cookie we can frost it. Keeps well in fridge.

  21. Nfncyladi

Just made these..not impressed at all! Will take them to work since they will eat anything..

  22. Helen Lefebvre

How much icing sugar and eggnog?

  23. Maddie

I make this recipe every year for Christmas and it is always a huge hit. The icing is plentiful, but my family loves it so much, they'll eat it with a spoon!

  24. Colleen

I know it's unlikely I will get a response in time for me to make these cookies but there is no amount for how much butter for these cookies. I want to make them tomorrow, Christmas Eve 2022, but only if I can find out how much butter. Thanks!

I have been making these every holiday season for a few years now. They are a favorite. The frosting especially is soooo good. I also highly recommend the frosting on ginger cookies.
