I love sweet & sour sauce. There are some good bottled ones out there, but homemade is the best!

    Could this be canned?

    1. Brad

I don't see why not. Make sure the temps are correct for killing off bacteria. (ie: sauce is hot enough, and jars are well cleaned/bathed.) Happy Canning!

Cornstarch does not react to canning well. You might be able to change it out to cleargel

It would be great to know the yield on this recipe!

Great sauce!!!! Went wonderfully with meat balls and rice!!!! I found adding the cornstarch with all the ingredients in the beginning made a smoother sauce. First attempt had lumps I had pick out. Second no Lumps at all!!

I love this sauce although to me it tasted more like teriyaki sauce. So I added a little crushed pineapple and man oh man, so yummy I kept sticking my finger in it to, you know, make sure it was still good! Don't tell ok? Shhh

I just made it find out shortly how it taste unfortunately i had to assume you add starch and reduce right after it boils. It does look just like the picture though and real easy.

This looks both easy & delicious. I used to just grab a sweet & sour sauce off the shelf...until I actually read the list of ingredients. Why would I want to be feeding my family the junk that is in the jarred sauces? I don't & I won't! Can't wait to try this. Has anyone made it with a little less sugar? Thanks for the post!

Hello, I used this sauce with my simple stir fry. My twist on Chinese. Kielbasa with veggies , brother says it was awesome. I took a picture, don’t know how to share it, new phone. Sorry. Love this sweet and sour recipe. Insanely easy.

Doubled the recipe, added some homemade pineapple jalapeno jam and used orange juice instead of water. Also added crushed red chile peppers, kosher salt and lemon pepper...yum!

Instead of rice vinegar could one use white vinegar??

How much does this recipe yield? 1 cup?

I converted all the amounts and came up with this recipe making about 1 1/2 cups (23.166 tablespoons). The point I don't know is for things like salt and cornstarch. Does salt count as 1/2 teaspoon and cornstarch count as 2 teaspoons? Since they dissolve, I'm not sure the volume increases. So, if they don't increase the volume, this 1 1/2 cups is off by 2 1/2 teaspoons. I calculated it as increasing the volume.
