Homemade Birthday Cake Oreos

Growing up, My mom did all of the cooking/baking our home. However, there was always one go-to dessert that both me and my younger sister could make and that we both LOVED, Homemade Oreos. We all just love these!

This recipe is a fun homemade take on the Birthday Cake Oreos that have hit the stores. As soon as I saw them I knew it would be fun to adapt our family recipe to make them “Birthday Cake” style :)  The end result… DELICIOUS! The cake batter frosting is incredible!

Homemade Birthday Cake Oreos

These are so fun and delicious! The Cake Batter Frosting is incredible!
Recipe type: Dessert
Ingredients
  • 2 boxes dry chocolate cake mix, I use Devils Food
  • 4 eggs
  • ⅔ cup oil
CAKE BATTER FROSTING
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup dry yellow cake mix
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¼ cup sprinkles
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, beat chocolate cake mixes, eggs and oil until completely blended.
  2. Roll dough into 1 inch balls and place on greased cookie sheets.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 8 minutes. You do not want to overcook these cookies. Almost a little underdone is better.
  4. While cookies are cooling, make frosting. Combine softened butter, powdered sugar, cake mix, vanilla, milk and sprinkles together in a medium bowl until completely blended
  5. When cookies are completely cooled, frost the bottom of one cookie, top with another cookie. Repeat with remaining cookies. If you want added sprinkles, roll the cookies edges in sprinkles.

Enjoy!

    Hi Nikki,

Just reading through this delicious recipe and curious as to how a seemingly runny and smooth cake batter can be rolled into balls and baked like cookies? I was going to attempt tonight, but I'm not quite sure how I'm supposed to take what I know to be batter (you've called it dough) and make balls?

    Would love your help!

    Thanks,

    1. Chef in Training

You use dry cake mix and then mix that with the oil and egg measurements above. You do not make it as the box directs you to. Te dough ends up being like cookie dough when you follow the above directions. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions and how they turn out for you! Have a great day :)

Can you freeze ( then defrost) for later date? If so, any suggestions? Can't wait to make these!

    1. Chef in Training

yes, you definitely can! I do this all the time. Just place in a freezer safe tupperware (with lid) and then pull out one as a time as you want. I like to put them in the microwave when I put them out to make them warm, soft and gooey... but you can just let it defrost as normal, too!

These look delicious. I think I would make them even when there wasn't a birthday, but I love cake batter/birthday cake flavors.
