How do I get the choc. chips not to melt? They are still delicious though!

    1. jt

      Put choc chips in freezer

    2. Victoria

I froze my chocolate chips and stirred them into the mixture after I removed it from heat, they still melted :( :( :( now it's like I made a chocolate marshmallow mixture and just stirred in the cereal. I went ahead and topped the treated with chocolate chips and a few marshmallows after, but it's not the same. I'm bummed.

  8. ArgusMom

What is magic shell that you could dribble over? Never heard of magic shell.

You can slowly heat up some chocolate frosting in microwave safe mug or bowl to use as a glaze it hardens up when it dries or melt some semi sweet chocolate chips with a little shortening, you can make designs & patterns if you use a pastry bag or make your own pastry bag by putting glaze mixture into a ziplock bag and slightly snipping one of the corners off. This is sweet enough though, very sweet so I didn't bother, plus my family started eating them before I even had the chance to let them cool. Magic shell is like the stuff they use to dip ice cream cones. It doesn't harden on warm food though so these would need to be very cool to just use magic shell. I wouldn't recommend the use of magic shell.

  17. Laura

Made these, LOVE THEM!!!!! I was craving smores and found this recipe and was very happy with how quick and easy they were, not to mention SO TASTY!!!!

  18. Mrs. Erven

Just made these. How did I manage to ruin a perfectly good sauce pan. :( P.s. They taste great but aren't nearly as cute as yours.

    1. Tammy

Try boiling your pan with water on stovetop to remove the carmellization after making an old trick they taught us in cooking class also keep stirring the marshmellow once you add to the melted butter

  19. Anonymous

I too couldn't do it without the chocolate chips melting. It looks like a mess, but I think it will still taste good. Not sure what I did wrong. Followed directions step by step.

  20. Anonymous

For those who had problems with the chocolate chips melting.....I waited about ten minutes after stirring the marshmallows into the cereal before adding the chips. I also put my chocolate chips in the freezer about an hour before, so they were cool when I added them in. I had perfect looking chocolate chips!

    1. Annie

You might want to write the "wait ten minutes/freeze the chips" hint in the directions for future readers. The melted choc doesn't "ruin" the dish, but it sure looks prettier with whole chips! :)

    2. Hortense van Uppity

How do people not understand that adding chocolate to a HOT melted sugar mixture makes it melt? You really need instructions to tell you that?

      Critical thinking is truly dead.

    1. cc

Not long if the kids see them on the counter. :)

  21. Linda Chism

Everything on here looks so good. I would love to try all of them.

  22. Cheyenne

    those look yummy!my blog - www.sincerelycheyenne.blogspot.com

  23. Julie

These are sooo delicious! Thank you for the recipe!

  24. Anonymous

Thanks for the help on the melting chocolate chips. I am going to try the "wait ten min and freeze the chips" tip. I just made these and they are so messy looking but my five-year-old loved them so much he was humming while eating. lol

  25. Bridget@Flour N Friends

Yum! I'd love to have some of these..you should come stop by my blog and check out my homemade snickers!

  26. Anonymous

It's a chocolate ice cream topping that hardens. You can find it where you find chocolate syrup.

  27. ssJanell

This is the kinda treat I would just mix up in a bowl and eat with a spoon, for those times when I don't like to share...

  28. Anonymous

thanks for sharing, daughter loves golden graham bars but we can't always find them, now we can make our own

  29. Crysta

So this didnt quite work the way you said it would. We followed the directions however trying to melt all the marshmallows made the butter burn even though it was only on medium heat. It made the marshmallows taste odd.

    1. Richard B

Try using a double boiler to melt the butter and marshmallow...works much better

  30. Hilani - Handmade by Hilani

I loved this so much, I had to share it on my Monthly Newsletter: http://hilanimade.com/welcome_files/monthlynewsletter.html Thanks for making great things, and sharing for all to enjoy. :) Have a great Mother's Day!

  31. Lori R

    what size box of cereal???

  32. Rachel

So, I made these last night and my chocolate chips ended up melting into the mixture. Is there suppose to be a "cooling period" before adding the chocolate chips? I removed the pan from the heat, but I'm wondering if I should have done the stirring in a separate bowl. They still tasted great :) but the presentation is definitely not as pretty as yours. Thanks for the recipe!

  33. Christy

I just made these and they are great! I accidently bought cinnamon toast crunch instead of the golden grahms, but have concluded that it still tastes great!

  34. Christy

I forgot to mention that I dropped them onto wax paper to make little clusters instead of putting them in a pan. Perfect for little individual servings.

  35. chinamelum menakaya

I've always wanted to know how to make this, so thanks for posting the directions! What kind of grease do i use on my pan? is the spraying oil ok to put on the pan or I have to use grease?..you know of the names of different greases i can use? thanks:)

  36. Daylee Richards

I would suggest adding the chocolate chips on top of the ceral/ marshmallow mixture so they dont melt. And maybe tring real grahm crackers instead of golden grahms.

  37. Rachel

I had a 16 oz box of golden grahams and used about 2/3 of it. So I would say use a 10 oz box.

  38. Kat

Found this via Pinterest and I can't wait to try it! Thanks so much!

  39. LeeAnnMStein

Just made these! Wish I would have read the comments about how to prevent the chips from melting. But they still taste great! And my marshmallow cream isn't pretty and white. I felt it could have used more or maybe I'll try not melting them too much next time.

  40. Meg

Wish I had read comments first too. I dropped on wax paper...do you leave room temp to cool or put in fridge?

  41. Claire

I just made these and they are fabulous! I purposely melted the chips in with the marshmallows and it made a yummy chocolate coating for the cereal! Several family members said it was the best thing they've ever eaten!

  42. janet

I cant get golden graham cereals or crackers is there anything else I can use instead

    1. Rustaholic

      Rice Chex or Corn Chex

  43. Diane

This looked sooo good, I made it at 3am this morning! I melted about 1/4 cup of peanut butter with the butter and marshmallows just because we love PB. YUM! Will make it like yours next time, and will cool the mixture a little longer before combining with the cereal as some of the chips were starting to melt. It's a keeper!

  44. Snyder1111

I'm wondering if anyone tried using Marshmallow Fluff instead? You can just melt it in the microwave and pour it over the cereal. Not sure if that would work too!

  45. c.l. caudle

dang my marshmallows must have been old they aren't melting

  46. Richard B

I did 1 cup chocolate chips and 1 cup peanut butter chips...to die for!!!!!

  47. saby

Can I replace cereal with anything els suggest

  48. Rustaholic

For a gluten free recipe use Corn Chex or Rice Chex.

  49. Betty

Looks wonderful cannot wait to try this would be great to take camping to. Yumm

  50. Donna Lemen

Looks like a snack to put out for a relay for cancer party , will make a great table snack along with the chips & dips.

  51. Laurie Whatley

These were amazing! Although, I thought you used cinnamon toast crunch instead of golden grahams so that was the cereal that I used. My chocolate chips melted though.......not that it really matters because they were Sooooo good!! I'm addicted!!

  52. Marilyn

These look so good! I was wondering what the nutritional information for these are. Looking for the total calories, fat, carb, and protein per serving, and how many servings does the recipe make? I'm trying to maintain portion sizes to lose weight.

  56. Debi

Im going to make using cinnamon grahams yummy!

  57. alyssa

    5

Wow - these were so good!! I used 60% ghiradelli chips and they were SO good against the sweetness of the marshmallows and cereal. Can't wait to make them again!!

  58. nicole

Can u make these with Jiffy puff marshmellow fluff?

  59. alexis

  60. Robert Koehn

What size box of cereal do you use ?? They look delicious !!!

  61. LA

What size cereal box do you use??? Thanks!!

  62. Kim

What kind of chocolate chips? Semi sweet? Milk? Dark?

  63. Melanie

What size box of Golden Grahams? Or, better yet, how many cups?

  64. Rose

The recipe doesn't state what size box of golden grahams to use. I really want to make these.

  65. Cyndi

I have made something like this for years. There are a couple of differences though. Instead of all golden grahams I use 1/2 golden grahams and 1/2 coco krispies or coco puffs. When I melt the marshmallows I always do it on the stove and melt and stir longer until the butter and marshmallows take on a light golden color giving it a toasted flavor. I use a 16 oz bag (it makes them more gooey) I sprinkle chocolate chips on top and depending on my mood I sometimes spread them out when they get "melty" I have also for an extra campfire flare sprinkled some mini marshmallows on top and placed under the broiler until they are the desired color. Just think about how they look when you pull them out of a campfire and you are so excited to eat it you are willing to suffer the burn lol). I am not allowed to go anywhere without bringing these. There have been tackles over the last one and death threats to the person that snags two. I even made them as a groom's "cake" for a friends wedding and the groom almost cried he was so excited. Hope you don't mind me sharing my differences. It has taken about 15 years to get to this final recipe and totally worth it. Happy munching no matter how you make em. I am going to go make a batch. Yum!

  66. Jami

I used chocolate "chunks" I'm the mixture and they stayed mostly intact. Then I sprinkled some mini chips on the top just bc they looked cute :)

  67. Sarah

What side box of golden Graham's does the recipe use?

  68. Mariah

any tips for making in a slow cooker? or anything without using a stove?

  69. Lory

I dropped the chips on top when in the pan. With some margarine (or cooking spray) on my fingertips, I spread the mix out and pushed the chips down to stick when cooling. It came out great.

  70. Samantha

Does anyone know if this will work with marshmallow fluff subbed for the regular marshmallows? I don't like to keep them on hand because they usually get hard before I have the chance to use them all.

  71. Thom

I changed them a bit. I replaced chocolate chips with Hershey bars that I put in terms freezer then rough chopped. Gave them a rustic look and added that authentic chocolate bar essence.

  72. Melissa

    5

Love this recipe! I used Milk Chocolate chips and it tasted great!! Will definitely be making this again!!

  73. Matt Wills

    4

You specify a box of cereal. I used 16 ounces and the marshmallows barely coated. It was very loose and the pieces, though cut nicely, fell apart. Tasted good, though.

    1. sandi

Matt Wills, I also had a 16oz box but only used 2/3 to 3/4 and turned out pretty good.

  74. Jamie Perry

    5

I made these tonight with a 12.8 oz box of cinnamon toast cereal and a 12oz bag of mini semi-sweet chips. Even though I froze the chocolate chips for a couple hours, they still melted pretty fast; but no one at my meeting cared, they were delicious!
Next time, I may try just plopping the cereal mixture in the cake pan and topping with the chocolate chips. Or, as a previous reviewer did, just melt the chocolate in with the marshmallows.

  75. Laura

How big a box of Golden Grahams do you use? I made these after having them (made by a co-worker.) Hers were better but I think my box of cereal was too big

  76. Shary

These were so good and made a fun dessert for everyone! I melted the chips also and it worked well! Loved the chocolate flavor! Thanks!

  77. Willie

    5

Oh ya bout to double the amount of butter and marshmallow and an oz of bud ?

  78. Tammy

    5

Made these for a state assessment completion celebration for my class. 3 panfuls, 30 kids, NO leftovers!

  79. Mike R

I just made this recipe and even with the chocolate chips being frozen they still melted. I would recommend updating this recipe to suggest letting the marshmallow and cereal recipe sit for 5 minutes before adding the frozen chocolate chips.

Also the suggested amount of marshmallow was not nearly enough. I would suggest updating this recipe to call for 2 bags of regular marshmallows.
