Mom’s Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies

My mother is known for her amazing recipes.  I had one kid sign my yearbook in Jr. High, and I kid you not, this is exactly what he wrote…

“Nikki, tell your mom I am coming over to visit and can’t wait to see what she has cookin’!”

Pretty sure some people used me to get to my mom’s kitchen.  If I wasn’t me, I probably would, too!

My mom is famous for her chocolate chip cookies… and I am about to share with you the secret recipe!  Since I can remember, these cookies have been a staple in my home… and once someone received the recipe, it quickly became a staple in their home as well.

Nikki you knew I needed these! When do I add the eggs, and do you mix it by hand or in your kitchen aid? Next you should put your moms almond cookies :) and her bread! ha ha. Isn't so nice to be able to call our moms for so many recipe's who are the best cooks!

You add the eggs after you cream the sugars and shortening together. I just use a hand blender, I wish I had a kitchen aid, Maybe for christmas?! hahaand yes it is wonderful to have moms that are great cooks!I will definitely post the almond cookie recipe! Those are SO GOOD! mmmm!

This may sound silly, but what do YOU use for shortening? No one uses crisco anymore, right? Do you just use butter? If so, can it be melted or does it need to be at room temperature? I never have it a room temperature when I decide to bake. Does that make a difference? Looking forward to making these! Thanks,

    1. Nikki

When I do use butter for baking, ESPECIALLY cookies, I never melt it. When I need to have it softened, I stick it in the microwave for five seconds on each side.

    2. Kelly

Do you use shortening (Crisco) or butter for this recipe?

    3. Meg

I use Spectrum brand palm shortening. Sustainably sourced and definitely better than crisco!

Nikki I just made these last night and they were DELISH! I love my mom's cooking and am pretty picky about stepping out of our homemade recipes, but I lacked an ingredient for hers so I decided to give this a go. Definitely didn't disappoint and I may or may not have eaten a ton of dough, too! ;)

Best chocolate chip cookie I have ever made. I always use butter and decided to try your recipe. Stayed softer and more fluffy. Thanks for sharing
