The “Hubby Favorites” of 2013

Hello and welcome to another most anticipated installment of the “Hubby Favorites.”

You may remember my first two “Hubby Favorite” lists… The first “Hubby Favorites” round up contains a lot of my all-time favorites and the second is my favorites from 2012. If you haven’t checked out those gems yet, make sure you do. And in case you are wondering… Chicken Pillows STILL has yet to be dethroned. Nikki better get on that, huh?

This has been a good year of eating some amazing foods. It is incredible how far my wife has come along over the past couple years. This year was no exception.

For all you noob readers who may not have gotten to know me yet, I am Derek the lucky husband of Chef in Training. I am the dishwasher, disposal and prestigious food critic. This journey that I am about to take you on is a list of foods that will make the man in your life able to leap tall buildings, run faster than a speeding bullet and massage your back and feet for hours at a time with out complaining. And if you are a man reading this, then buckle up and get ready to add some incredible recipes to your arsenal of favorite foods.

Some of the foods you are about to see will consist of main dishes, desserts, snacks and sides that will make you lick your screen wishing for just a taste of the awesome goodness. The first 10 are in no particular order, then I will reveal my top 3 favorites of 2013.

13.) CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA

Okay, so the cats out of the bag. I’m kind of a “wimp” when it comes to spicy foods. I like to think im just “sensitive” to foods that bring on the heat. This dish had a nice roundhouse kick to my tastebuds reminding me that spice is very nice.

12.) BBQ CHICKEN FRENCH BREAD PIZZA

My favorite pizza is BBQ chicken style. When I tried this pizza on French bread, it was as if Chuck Norris gave me the key to the world and said, “You take it. I am not worthy.”

11.) BEAR LAKE TRAIL MIX

About an hour and a half from my home is a magical place called Bear lake. My family has been going to this lake every year for just about my whole life. For the past couple of years there has been this trial mix that disappears almost as soon as we pull it out. Very simple and addicting for the young and old.

10.) CHICKEN CORDON BLEU PILLOWS

This is a remix of my all time favorite meal with a super boss twist. The addition of diced ham and bacon along with swiss cheese really brought this pillow to the next level. What man wouldn’t say yes to more meat added to his favorite meal???

9.) BAKED CREAM CHEESE RANGOONS

Aristotle taught “all things in moderation.” I ate 20 of these in one sitting, jumped in a phone booth with ‘Bill and Ted’ went back to 400BC, walked right up to Aristotle and shoved 5 of these Ragoons in his mouth and said REPENT.

8.) REESE’S BROWNIES WITH PEANUT BUTTER BUTTERCREAM

I’m not much of a brownie person but before you throw rotten tomattos and spoiled meats at me- I have to admit that this recipe for Reese’s infused brownie is pretty Dang Darn Good.

7.) THE DOWNTOWNER SANDWICH

I found this small café down town that made the best sandwich ever! I made the mistake of introducing said sandwich to my wife who was pregent at the time. Guess who had to pick up a Down Towner every other day for trimester #2 and #3. That would be this guy. She happened to be carrying a ‘little man’ in that particular pregnancy. Needless to say- men of all ages appreciate this lunch fit for a king.

6.) BUFFALO CHICKEN TAQUITOS

Brought these to the Old Spice guy and legend has it his chest hairs grew 3 sizes that day. Not to mention he named me as his new stunt double.

5.) BREAKFAST PUFFINS

The best part of waking up, is a Puffin in your mouth. Seriously, if you want more energy throughout the day, just whip some of these up and get ready to MOVE like a cheetah. Get your protein on!

Ring around the rosies, a pocket full of creamy chicken broccoli, pound it, pound it, we’re all ..full …now!  Did you see what I did there?…

3.) CHICKEN ENCHILADA CASSEROLE

Remember that one time you were base jumping in the Swiss Alps and suddenly an eagle whispered in your ear that the timer on your oven just went off and it’s time to eat…..yeah that was epic. So is this Casserole.

1.) SLOW COOKER HONEY MAPLE BBQ RIBS

When Nikki first started her blog and would ask my opinion on how various meals tasted, I would always tell her it was magnificent- even if some of them really were not. Then when her blog started taking off and more and more of you started to follow her is decided it was time for some constructive criticism.  She tried to surprise me with a dinner of ribs. Her first time and they came out of the oven chared crispy. I took one bite and asked what time the pizza would be delivered. Fast forward to July 2013 where Nikki once again surprised me with a heaping plate of ribs. I took a bite and can honestly say they were the best ribs I have ever tasted. She cooked them flawlessly. I will admit, Nikki makes way better ribs than I could even try to come close. Her secret is the slow cooker and her BBQ sause is to die for.

Hope you got some amazing ideas for some super Man-tastic Meals and enjoy them as much as I do. I really enjoy compiling my favorites of the year for all of you. Thank you for your support. Have an awesome rest of the new year and remember to eat in moderation. Ha. By the way, as Nikki was posting this she had the audacity to ask who “Bill and Ted” were. I just looked here square in the eyes and yelled, “WILD STALONS” (while playing air guitar). Party on dudes.

If you make this recipe, snap a photo and hashtag it #chefintraining and/or #chefintrainingblog. I would love to see how these recipes take shape in your kitchens.

I absolutely love your idea of doing a Hubby Favorite wrap-up! I hope you don't mind if I steal it for next year. Those hubby's are such reliable sounding boards. I've got to try those breakfast Puffins.

Derek, the Hubby that you wish was your next door neighbor so you could hang out more often. The Hubby who combined the old spice guy, the grinch who stole christmas, and a buffalo chicken taquitos into one coherent thought. I mean really how do you even comment to that except by hitting the subscribe button more times in the hope that it'll do something. Awesome post dude :)
