Ham and Swiss Sliders

Football season could be my very favorite!  I LOVE the parties, the company and the food! I actually think I enjoy the food more than the actual game sometimes ;)

I have made this recipe SEVERAL times now.  It is by far one of our family’s favorites! I first saw the recipe on The Girl Who Ate Everything, but originally it came from The Recipe Club. These little snacker sandwiches are absolutely PERFECT for tailgate parties… or really any party… and will be DEVOURED faster than you can imagine.  I sent these with my hubby to test out on his friends and he said they were gone in a matter of 5 minutes! I had probably one too many myself!  Believe me when I say, they are DIVINE! I definitely keep this recipe in my party rotation.  They are a huge hit with the crowds!

Ham and Swiss Sliders

These are absolutely perfect finger foods for any get together or tailgate party! They disappear within minutes!
Recipe type: Appetizer
Ingredients
  • 24 white dinner rolls, I LOVE King's Hawaiian Rolls
  • 24 pieces honey ham
  • 24 small slices Swiss Cheese
  • ⅓ cup mayonaise
  • ⅓ cup miracle whip
POPPY SEED SAUCE
  • 1 Tbsp. poppy seeds
  • 1½ Tbsp. mustard
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • 1 Tbsp. minced onion
  • ½ tsp. Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
  1. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise and miracle whip.
  2. Cut Rolls in halves. Spread mayonaise-miracle whip mixture on each side of the roll. Place a piece of honey ham and Swiss cheese on one half of each roll. Fold back into sandwich form.
  3. Place rolls close together in a greased 9x13 pan until pan in completely full.
  4. Mix together all ingredients of Poppy Seed Sauce. Spread evenly over the tops of all the rolls. *NOTE* I did not use all the sauce. Let the rolls set until the butter has set up a bit. Cover with aluminum foil and Bake at 350 degrees F for 12-15 minutes.
  5. Rolls can be made a day ahead and stored in fridge until ready to bake.

Enjoy!

Yum! I bet if I whipped some of these up for my brother and dad during the game, I could get 'em to do the yardwork and house cleaning after :) I LOVE Hawaiian rolls and the melty ham and swiss on these bad boys looks awesome, girl!

  2. EBPitcher

I make something similar and throw them in a crockpot? So easy and yummy!

  3. Tina @ Sugar Bean Bakers

When I was a teen, a lady at my church used to make these for "Prayer Breakfast".

They were so amazing! Thanks for the recipe!

If I make these a day ahead of time, should I wait to put the butter mixture on top of the rolls or can that also be added ahead of time. I was thinking they might get soggy.

    1. Martie

We make them almost the same way (they were called "Party Sandwiches" and used the tiny rectangle rolls that come in an aluminum pan but no mayo or Miracle Whip) and usually make up several pans of them at once. Eating them the next day they are just as good or better. Just wanted to let you know that putting the butter on them ahead is okay.

    2. Martie

Oh, just realized that her butter mix is on top. Ours goes IN the rolls and thus no need for mayo, etc. Just thought I'd mention it and couldn't edit once I'd posted. ;)

I made this for dinner for my family last night and we had it with some chips and sliced tomatoes and mayo. They loved it. I made one excatly like the receipe called and then a second one (we have a large family) without the poppy seeds and used provalone cheese iinstead of swiss because of pickier family memeber. They thought I had created the best dinner ever. Thanks this is a good easy quick dinner for a busy family with a tight schedule.

For another twist, try the sweet version of this recipe that adds brown sugar to the sauce.

  12. Tanya

The only thing I would do different would be to put half of the sauce for the top on one of the inside bun halves. These wre delicious and are quick and easy to make. These would be great to feed a crowd

  13. Lori M.

I made these when we had friends over for the game. They were a big hit! Even the leftovers were great the next few days! Will definitely make these again and again!

Thanks for this! These are a STAPLE at so many southern holiday parties, and I have been searching for this classic version of the recipe for a while. The only recipes I have been able to find are for a modified version, but they are just not the same. Thanks for posting/sharing!

  15. Alisha

Huge hit at my daughter's birthday party this weekend!!! Everyone asked for the recipe! I love your site! Thanks for sharing all the yummy recipes! I have made several of them and have not been disappointed once :))

  16. Mary

Made these more times than I can count! Husband requests these when we host football watching get togethers. The last time I made them I doubled the batch, 5 men were over for the game. Brought the first pan out and by the time I took the second pan out of the oven the first pan was gone. Went back to the kitchen to take care of a few things, then back to the snacks and sliders but they were gone! ok I know most men can eat a lot, but save a few for the cook!
I omit the onions since hubs is a baby and swears he hates them. This recipe is awesome. Dont wait, try it!

  17. Renee Kelly

These are absolutely delicious and quick & easy to make! The only thing I changed was elimination of Miracle Whip.

  18. gigi

These are called "funeral rolls" in the South because people bring them to wakes.

  19. Thea

Are these still good if baked the night before? We have a pot luck so I can't bake them at work.
