Our oldest is a girl, Avrie, and I am now excited to have two of the same gender in a row. Our little Jace needs a little brother around the house :)  Since I am finally feeling myself-ish again, you can expect to see more recipes on the blog again! woot!

First of all: Congrats :) A boy is great. If our situation was any better we would try for a second child as well.

Second, and this is the not so good part :D Sorry :D
As a German I have to say: Those don't sound German at all :D We would not use Cocounut and Pecan for anything really. You have to be really lucky to even guy Pecans anywhere in Germany. Most stores around us don't sell them. Its sad :/ I love them after 3 years in America. I substitute with Walnuts, but its just not the same.

It still is a good recipe :D I would just not put the Frosting on top.
Btw I love your blog. Will follow on Pintrest and Facebook :)

German chocolate cake gets its name from a man who invented it whose name was German, not because the recipe comes from Germany :-)

    2. Michele

German Chocolate Cake isn't supposed to be German in origin, it was actually invented by a guy whose last name was German, so that should explain the recipe not being a traditional German one :)

LOVE THE EASY GERMAN CHOCOLATE COOKIES WITH GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE MIX
BUT TO MAKE IT EVEN EASIER, I USE DUNCAN HINES OR BETTY CROCKER PECAN-COCONUT FROSTING
IN A CAN FOR THE FROSTING.
    LOVE YOU WEBSITE.
WAITING TO HEAR ABOUT THE NEW BABY BOY............

  8. Lou

How many cookies does this recipe make? Thanks!

  9. Kelly O.

Does the icing stay gooey? or does it set up hard like a chewy candy?
    they look delish!

  10. Carolee

    These cookies look so delicious..

  11. Donna Andrews

To gooey to roll into balls. They never set up into a firm cookie.

  12. Madison

When these set up, are they stackable?

  13. Joan Henninger

I finally got this recipe to turn out, but ruined the first 16 cookies.
First of all, 8 minutes are not long enough. They were doughy and fell apart. I baked the next ones 10 to 12 minutes.
I also refrigerated the dough. It is so much easier to roll them into balls. When I make Chocolate Crinkles, I do this.
I can't believe that more people didn't have problems.

    1. erinn

I definately agree with 10-12 minutes. I had the same problem, but once i baked them a little longer, they were delicious :)

  14. Casey

I would love to make these for teacher gifts this year. Is the icing pretty messy after they are finished? Thanks!

  15. ROLANDO

German chocolate is my wife's favorite cake. They look
Yummy..going to have to make some this Thanksgiving
    Week

  16. erinn

I say to bake them 10-12 minutes. They were a little too gooey at 8 minutes, but once i baked them a little longer, they were delicious :)

I'm not sure what melted chocolate candy coating is! Can you just melt choc chips?

  18. Christina R

Haven't been able to find German Chocolate Cake mix in Canada anywhere. Is it possible to use just a chocolate cake mix in place? Or are there different/special flavours in the German Cake mix that will be missing?

    Thanks :)

    1. Chef in Training

any chocolate cake mix will do :)

  19. Sandra

I wish this didn't use a cake mix! They sound delicious but I only cook from scratch.

  20. Nancy

  26. Roxie

Hi Nikki, your German Chocolate sheet cake was a winner yesterday. Thank you! So today got an encore request to make your cookies :-) How much do your boxes of cake mix weigh? The ones I found in the store today varied from 21 oz - 15.25 oz per box. Doubled, that makes a huge difference to the recipe.

  27. Dorothy

    Salted or unsalted butter?
