Samoa Truffles

Cookie. Caramel. Chocolate. Toasted Coconut. Is there any better combo?! In my world, I am going to have to go with a big fat NO on that one.

Sometimes, I make a recipe that even I have a hard time saying no to or stopping at just one serving. This is one of those recipes. These truffles are seriously DIVINE! SO simple… as in 5 ingredients… and they are beyond delicious.

Golden Oreos combine with cream cheese and caramel to form the most gooey tasty center, coated in chocolate and topped with toasted coconut, these truffles have it all.

Good luck stopping at just one. I dare you! :)

Samoa Truffles from chef-in-training.com ...only FIVE ingredients and they couldn't be more delicious! Could be my favorite truffles yet!

Only FIVE ingredients and they couldn't be more delicious! Could be my favorite truffle yet!
Recipe type: Dessert
Ingredients
  • 1 (14.3 oz) package Golden Oreos
  • 4 oz. softened cream cheese
  • ¼ cup caramel topping
  • 10 oz. chocolate candy coating
  • ¼ cup toasted coconut
Instructions
  1. Finely crush oreos in a food processor and place fine crumbs in a medium bowl.
  2. Add softened cream cheese and caramel topping to bowl. With hands (or a spoon, I just think hands are faster), mash softened cream cheese, caramel and crushed Oreos until well combined.
  3. Roll into 1" balls and place on a wax covered cookie sheet. Put in freezer for 15 minutes.
  4. While balls are in freezer, melt chocolate according to directions.
  5. Pull the truffles out of freezer, and dip into chocolate one at a time. Try to remove as much excess chocolate as possible. Place back on wax paper on cookie sheet.
  6. Immediately after placing chocolate dipped truffle on wax paper, garnish tops with toasted coconut before the chocolate sets up.
  7. Let chocolate set, refrigerate and enjoy!

Enjoy!

Dumb question...do you remove the cream center of the oreos first?

    1. Chef in Training

Nope, just leave them in there when crushing/processing :)

  6. Lindsey

I am a sucker for Samoas! These are definitely on my list to make.

These look awesome! My hubby loves the cookie and the standard Oreo balls so I'm betting these will be a huge hit!! One question...how do I make the toasted coconut if I already have some that's Unsweetened and shredded? Gah can't wait to make these!

how many does this recipe make?

    1. Chef in Training

about 40 truffles give or take depending how big you make them :)

Is the chocolate candy coating like ice cream magic shell or like candy melts used for candy making?

    1. Chef in Training

I find it in the baking aisle. It comes in a rectangle block and is easy to melt and sets up faster than chocolate chips. Its not magic shell, don't use that. You can use candy melts if desired or even chocolate chips. Hope that helps.

  16. Amy

How well do you think these would freeze? I'm having a baby shower next weekend and would like to make these ahead of time, if possible.

    1. Shar

I make double batches of mint chocolate Oreo truffles all the time and freeze portions of it for later. I just thaw them in the refrigerator.

  17. T.O.

Is there a particular brand of chocolate melts you recommend ? Thanks.

    1. Chef in Training

I use Candiquick or the western family brand. They can be found down the baking aisle of almost any grocery store.

  18. Kelsey

I made these last night and they are delicious!!

  19. Dana N

I made these today, and they are great! I didn't 't have melting candies , so I used semi-sweet chocolate and a bit of shortening. These are addictive! I will definitely be making them again. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

  20. clmosher

I made these with knock off regular "vanilla sandwich cookies" (i.e., not even the knock off Oreos) and they were still the biggest hit at my cookie exchange. (I made 6 different kinds of truffles. Yeah, I do overachieve much, but just in the kitchen) Thank you so much for this recipe. It is my favorite and I'm adding it to my "I'm only making these things one a year" list. :D

  21. Dana N

Hi, I made these for the holidays. So easy, and so rich tasting! I didn't have the melting chocolate, so I melted semi-sweet chocolate chips and a bit of shortening together to dip them in. I'll be making these again, thank you for the recipe!

  22. Jeannine

Could you roll them in the coconut, put in fridge and then coat with chocolate?

  23. Day

I just located the yield in your comment section. Thank you! These look awesome!
